Fresh out of college I got lucky. My first job was practically handed to me on a platter of gold thanks to my dad. I never knew how the harsh real life was.
I kept racketing debt up on my credit card; throwing and attending wild parties, taking a mini vacation every other weekend and generally just lavishing money. It was fun I must say, I also took a car deal without thinking it through. I had my student loan to deal with and I also had a mortgage on my condominium, but that didn't matter. I felt as long as I worked and earned, I would be able to pay off all debt. For me Job security was like an iron clad guarantee but the master of misfortune was bidding his time. At about that same time, I was getting pressured to get married and since everyone knew I had a thing for Clarke (he was my college boyfriend), she felt like the right choice and we started planning. As a typical girl, I wanted my wedding to be talk of the town for months! Not to mention the yardstick for any other wedding to come! Although my check was getting swallowed fast by my mortgages, I had to put up the appearance. So, what was the way forward? A loan of course! A $45,251 loan to be exact! We ended up having the best wedding I'd ever seen and everyone was happy! I was too. Of course after the weeding, the marriage necessitated us to move into a bigger apartment. Definitely a bigger budget, and the mortgage noose got tightened a bit more. Besides, the master of misfortune had all his plans in place and was just ready to drop his ace card. The company I was working with started having financial issues, it started with a badly handled lawsuit which the company settled out of court, it would have lost a million dollars, but the attorneys dragged on and on till a court judgement of ten million was slammed against the company. Due to this, there had to be massive downsizing. To cut a long story short, I lost my job, and reality glared at me right in the face! I returned home shattered and my sweet husband was supportive, at least for the moment. Then the torrents started. The cars were repossessed (my bad, I forgot to tell you I paid for my husband's car also) The banks wouldn't get off my back and our condo was sliding towards a foreclosure. Contemplating suicide during those times was easier than thinking about what to have for dinner, I looked into many different options, one of which was debt consolidation loan. it felt like a great idea. Consolidate all your debts into a single payment and save a ton of money on interest! Sounds great right? But I soon found out that it wasn’t the best option for me since my credit was already shit. Which makes sense since I was in $50,320 in an unsecured debt alone! I decided to apply for a debt consolidation loan and the interest rates offered were out of this world! They wanted 39.99% interest! I was't impressed and went back to chewing the end of my pencil. I got another job, but my debt wouldn’t just go away, but on a certain night, as I was surfing the net, I moved from one site to the next and before I knew it, I came across a story similar to mine. I found out the steps the he took, and I decided to take the same. I rang National Debt relief and today I am entirely free of debt. They are definitely not magicians, as they will walk you through the phrases and it takes time too. But I must say they are something close to being magicians.
